Sports is not just a game to fans like us, it is a passion, a lifestyle, a part of our soul. For every sports fan, there is that one place, that one place that the minute you step foot into, everything changes. Lights, colors, sounds become intensified. Your heart rate elevates, and you become so engaged with everything that is happening around you, it is hard to concentrate on any single object. For me, that place is Fenway Park. Living in Texas, I have only been lucky enough to visit twice. The first time, about 12 years ago was sudden, unexpected event. While visiting my grandparents in Maine, my Uncle Max, also an avid Red Sox fan, found a company that would bus us down and back, and of course we got tickets as well. Now to this day, I can barely remember what I had for lunch last week, but I will always remember that day, sitting in the outfield watching Josh Beckett pitch against the Kansas City Royals. I remember the heat, the heckles from fans, and of course, the ringing voices singing Sweet Caroline.
My second time, was of recent. I was able to plan my own trip to Boston/Maine with my fiancee. I wanted her to experience Fenway, Boston, and the Red Sox in a way most people could never do. I also wanted her (mainly me) to see the walking, living, legend, David Ortiz, one last time before he retires. So I saved money for 6 months, and bought 4th rows seats, between the Red Sox dugout and home plate. Now David Ortiz, is my all time favorite player, so what happened next was a life experience, I will never forget. Halfway through the game, he threw me a ball, a ball that I IMMEDIATELY put in a case when I got home and proudly displayed. This ball lit a fire in me to grow my sports memorabilia, and that is when I discovered TTM.
Through online research, I found that many, MANY people obtained autographs Through The Mail. So naturally, I wanted to try it. Recently, I sent off two items to Tim Tebow and Yu Darvish. What I included:
-Official Rawlings MLB Baseball
-Personalized letter with inked signature
-SASE envelope

Though Tim Tebow and Yu Darvish are completely random athletes, I figured it would serve as a nice diversity to my collection, if they are returned. I'm also attending the Red Sox games when they come to Texas, so I plan to try extremely hard to get autographs there. My next two targets will be Pedro Martinez at MLB Network and Bill Belichick.
I will post updates as I receive and send out more.
